Why did you join this site?
Exposure, mostly. I wanted artists around the world to see my work and vice versa.

What does your username have to do with you?
Arkan is a revamped version of the word "arcane", which describes the vast majority of my art, and the 009 is taken from the year I joined DA. (plus there were already a couple Arkans on here, but I was too in love with the name to let it go)

What is your current icon of?
An abstraction of my left eye. The transparent square represents half of my glasses, and I have a bright blue vein striating from the socket. The vein has become a trademark of sorts; much like my art, it's ugly and undesirable on one hand - strikingly beautiful on the other.


How many watchers do you have and how many people are you currently watching?
I have 13 watchers (quality over quantity ) and about 72 watchees. But I tend to watch people rather freely. Anyone whose style is glaringly unique grabs my attention pretty fast.

Sure don't.

What deviant do you admire because of their personality?
All the deviants I know in real life are good people.

How many people on here do you know in reality?
ehh A few from high school, a few from college.

Do you comment, fave, or both?
Mostly I just fave. I don't comment unless some detail of the piece REALLY piques my interest, or I feel able to add some insight that a million people haven't already stated.

What do you typically post on DA?
Anything I feel has artistic merit and/or stuff that gives my page visitors a behind-the-scenes look at my projects. But only the creme de la creme of my work get enabled as prints.

Do you participate in clubs or contests here on DA?
Both are works in progress.

What's your most popular deviation?
My photogram "I Know Why" has attracted a ton of views. And it's so simple, too...it just boggles me.

What's your favorite submission in your favorites gallery?
PASS.

What are the things you wish you could draw better?
cars....ohhh cars...

Are you a subscriber?
No. But if I wish really hard....

How many hours a day are you on DA?
Depends on the day. I usually reserve about an hour a day on weekdays and varying hours on weekends.

Are you a fast, slow, or medium typist?
Medium to slow depending on my mood.

What's the most annoying thing people ask you?
"How do you pronounce your last name?" (it's "Maui", like the island, only with an "e" at the end. Know your German names, people!!)

What's the most annoying comment you get?
The repetitive kind.

What inspires you?
What DOESN'T? But if I had to narrow it down, I'd have to say a combination of psychology, dreams, biology, childhood memories, mythological figures, random ideas that hit me like lightning, repressed emotions, problems...ehh that's the list for now.

Do you use any traditional media?
Oh GOD yes. Lotsa graphite and acrylic paints, sometimes markers, sometimes watercolors...As stated on my page, I take whatever I can get my grubby little mitts on and turn it into art.

Do you associate people online with their icons?
'Spose so. I've never consciously thought about it till now.

Have you ever suggested a Daily Deviation?
Nope.

Have you ever considered leaving? Why?
There have been depressing times when it felt like no one really cared about the core ideas I strive to convey through my art, or I wasn't getting as many pageviews as I would've liked. But I'm constantly improving and getting inspiration from everywhere, so the high points can't be far behind the crap.
